On Tuesday, Nikki Haley announced that she’s running for president.
The daughter of Indian immigrants, Haley serves as the ultimate embodiment of the American Dream.
Her credentials are impressive: She served as governor of South Carolina (2011-2017) and as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations (2017-2018).
Her announcement comes at a time of extreme polarization at home, which is largely driven by a grievance culture – both on the right but especially on the left – that stokes anger and division.
Haley, however, is a different type of a leader. She not only has an inspiring life story, but she has a temper that is required for the top job: she’s calm and collected. Haley also knows what’s important: strength through unity.
Next, she will inevitably face off against former President Donald Trump in the battle for the GOP nomination. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is also a likely contender, although he has not yet announced.
The South Carolinian might very well be a contemporary Ronald Reagan. Like the former President, Haley makes her pitch for the White House by focusing on what’s beautiful in America and the values that make this country so special.
Haley’s most important asset is that she brings a can-do attitude in her quest to fix problems at home wrapped in the type of sunshine conservatism that speaks to America’s better angles.
